A product roadmap is a high-level visual summary that maps out the vision and direction of a product. It communicates the why, what, and when of what the product team plans to build. It provides a clear, high-level view of the product strategy and helps to align the team, stakeholders, and customers on the product direction.

There are several steps involved in creating a product roadmap:

  1. Define the purpose of the roadmap: Before you start creating the roadmap, it’s important to understand why you’re doing it. What is the purpose of the roadmap? Is it to communicate the product vision to stakeholders? Is it to align the product team on the roadmap? Understanding the purpose will help you create a roadmap that meets the needs of your audience.
  2. Identify the target audience: Who will be reading the roadmap? Is it for internal stakeholders or external customers? Understanding the target audience will help you tailor the content and format of the roadmap to meet their needs.
  3. Gather input from key stakeholders: In order to create a roadmap that is aligned with the goals of the organization, it’s important to gather input from key stakeholders. This could include the product team, the CEO, sales, marketing, and customer success.
